What are Elements in Genshin Impact?
There's A Total of 7 Elements
There are 7 Elements in Genshin Impact: Pyro, Cryo, Electro, Hydro, Anemo, Geo, and Dendro. Each element has its own strengths, weaknesses, and unique interrations when combined together.
Each Element Represents an Archon
Archons are the gods of Teyvat. There are 7 gods who represent each of the 7 Elements. The official ones known so far are Venti, Zhongli/Morax, Ei/Raiden Shogun, Kusanali, and the Tsarista.

Element | Element Information |

Pyro | The fire element in Genshin Impact. Great for burning wooden and Cryo shields. Weakest against the Hydro element. Used for Melt, Overloaded, and Vaporize reactions. |
Cryo | The ice element in Genshin Impact. Can slow and freeze characters. Weakest against the Pyro Element. Used for Melt, Superconduct, and Frozen reactions. |
Electro | The lightning element in Genshin Impact. Weakest against Cryo and Pyro. Used for Overloaded, Superconduct, and Electro-Charged reactions. |
Hydro | The water element in Genshin Impact. Useful for putting out fires. Weakest against Cryo and Electro. Used for Vaporize, Electro-Charged and Frozen reactions. |
Anemo | The wind element of Genshin Impact. Very versatile and can spread other elements except Geo. It is considered a neutral element. Used for Swirl and Elemental Absorption reactions |
Geo | Geo is the rock element of Genshin Impact. Usefull for destroying rock structures and rock shields. Weakest against other Geo damage and the Overloaded reaction. Interracting with the other elements except Anemo will trigger the Crystalized effect. |
Dendro | Dendro is the plant element released in Sumeru. Dendro can trigger several reactions and chain reactions depending on the elements. It cannot interact with the Anemo and Geo element. |

Swirl | 1. Non-Geo and Non-Anemo | Spreads the first element around the target then deals the element and Anemo damage. |

Crystalize | 1. Non-Geo and Non-Anemo | Drops a shard that creates a shield with bonus resistance to the element when picked up. |

Burning | 1. Dendro | Sets the target on fire, dealing damage over time. |

Bloom | Hydro Dendro | Creates a Dendro Core. |

Different Damage Types
Damage in Genshin Impact is split into 8 types. You can tell what type of damage it's dealing by the color of the numbers that pop up.

Yellow | Geo |
Some elements also leave their mark on enemies, which lets you create unique interactions that have their own unique effects.
Reaction Damage
Elemental Reactions are the combination of different Elements. These combinations can lead to unique effects. Some reactions, depending on the order, can result in less or more damage.

Elemental Resistance
Some enemies are more resistant to certain Elements. This is called Elemental Resistance. Even though they're not completely immune, you'd still want to use elements that they don't have a high resistance to.
There are also enemies who are completely immune to certain elements.
Elemental Auras
Elemental Auras are debuffs applied to you by enemies who have a wide circle around them. When receiving one of these debuffs, a red icon associated with the element will appear on top of your health bar. These debuffs can only be removed by using a cleanse ability or applying a different element on yourself.
