Kinda wondering since most of their on road bodies seem to be backordered. I thought I had read some where that they were not doing good. I have been using HPI stuff since the 80's. Not sure if the on road segment is in a sag, forcing them to discontinue the bodies or what.
What have you heard.

Have you seen my LVC?

HPI went out of business earlier this year. Then they were bought by Ripmax. So HPI still exists, but who knows what they will look like in another year...

For a while HPI cars were all backordered, but they seem to be in stock in most places now. I guess Ripmax is starting production with the big ticket items?

Ahhhh, that explains a lot. Sorry to hear they went out of business, Novak, now HPI. 2016 was HPI's 30th aniversary year. Long standing companies in our hobby.

Got Chrome?

Quality items priced right sell. If stuff doesn't sell (lack of innovation, new products, quality?), business doesn't survive. It can also be poor management that caused their decline and not their products... But, for me, having been in the hobby 20 years, I have never been impressed with HPI products.

Did I make the A Main?

Add OFNA to the list of companies that closed in 2016 too Is HPI Racing doing OK (3)

Hot Bodies also split off from HPI and was sold to Neidhart and they changed the name to HB Racing. There was a big stink with SOAR who used to make parts for both HPI and HB and Neidhart quickly paid off the debt while Ripmax initially balked but eventually settled the debt.

It's not clear if SOAR is still making cars for both brands, but SOAR has since branched out and started marketing their own brand now.

I'm not entirely convinced that Ripmax will be able to resurrect HPI back to the brand that we once all knew and loved.

That sucks that ofna closed. I had a monster pirate for a bit then a 1/8 nitro buggy that ran real well like over a decade ago.

Ofna had the Hyper SS, which is still being produced by Hobao. Hobao is still kicking around with great products..

What I gathered is that Ripmax bought HPI in June and took over all employees in their logistics center.
They also opened "HPI Racing Design LLC" and took the old management from HPI DNS for this.

Ripmax stated they won't change much, but they want to extend the parts support ... sales network stays basically the same. They want to further push the brand HPI.

I guess we'll see what comes...

What gives me hope is that I found some stores here in Germany, which list the HPI "Hoonicorn" to be back March/April 2017

Guess they expect surface off road to bounce back. I still have an interest in surface even with all the air stuff coming out. Was disappointed with the discontinuation of the HPI Pulse 4.6 and wonder if I should scrap or even get parts. Not a good trend by RipMax. I understand it's not a big ticket item and probably not worth it for them. I would just want to know if parts will be available going forward but that is not too clear to me. Have contacted support and they have been good about getting back but not good with information about parts availability. The U.S. site shows the pulse as active but Tower and their U.K. counterpart shows it as discontinued. Thinking about dumping HIP as we don't know what will be active in 6 months.

HPI Europe told me that they were discontinuing my HPI Pulse 4.6 buggy but going to produce parts. Evidently they are producing parts, but not distributing them here in the U.S. as readily. Was told they would still make the parts and that I needed to order them from Europe.

Their RTR stuff had issues. Still like the quality of the non RTR components.

I'm afraid you may be right on that although I think with improvements of their RTR vehicles and some innovation there might be some life left in the brand.
